My mom used to make cocktail sauce but I never knew what she made it out of. She made tartar sauce too from mayo/miracle whip, relish, and a bit of powdered cream of tartar. Fry sauce/Thousand Island dressing was ketchup, mayo, and a tiny bit of relish.

Now I'm craving shrimp and cocktail sauce.

I like cocktail sauce with my shrimp -- is there always horseradish in it? It has such a nice tart flavor but I never bothered to check the label and find out what made it that way LOL! Have I been eating horseradish all this time?

I didn't know they sold cocktail sauce until I was an adult. My mom always used ketchup and horseradish... Same with tartar sauce.. She always used mayo and relish.

I never thought about adding chili sauce to it.. that would give it a nice flavor.. Chili sauce is one of those things I keep in the house too. Never know when you need a dash of it for a bland dish.

Great simple solution! I need to keep Heinz chili sauce on hand more often. It's good to add a zing to almost anything.

What a smart solution, Jennifer - the horseradish must give it a nice zing! • Janet

We like cocktail sauce on our fishsticks and I forgot to buy it at the store, so I made it and it was delicious!
    Couldn't be easier!

    1/2 cup ketchup-Heinz
    1/2 cup chili sauce-Heinz
2-3 teaspoons prepared horseradish-I used three
    1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
    Juice of 1/2 a lemon

In a small bowl, combine all ingredients; mix well. Enjoy!
Chill if you like your cocktail sauce cold-I do!
